I’ve spent over 20 years working in personal finance. Sixteen of those were at investment firms where I worked directly with retirement-age clients managing their financial lives. For the past six years, I’ve been helping busy professionals stay on top of their finances as a personal financial manager.

But the experience that shaped this business the most wasn’t a job. It was managing my own father’s finances during his illness and after his death. Every bill, every account. I handled all of it so my father would not have to be concerned about whether or not things were taken care of, as my mother was not able to do it.

That experience showed me how many families are overwhelmed by the same things I already knew how to do. And it showed me that having one person who understands both the financial systems and the human side of the situation makes all the difference.
